ENG: You are in love with electro sound since early age, can you tell us what
was the thing in electro sound that attracted you so much?

ENG: I suppose it was the feeling that it is something modern, futuristic and at the time different and interesting. I was fascinated with electronics and machines and computers from a very early age – I come from a family of engineers – so it was all connected with a fascination with how the sounds are being made and not just the music itself.

SRB: Da li je tvoje obrazovanje (Electronic Engineering – specialising in Digital Signal Processing and developing) doprinelo tvojoj strasti ka elektro muzici ili je bilo obrnuto?

ENG: Did your education ( Electronic Engineering – specialising in Digital Signal Processing and developing) contributed to your passion towards electro or it was vice versa?

ENG: That was just something in parallel really. I was already deep into things before I reached university. Like I said above I was surrounded by engineers and it was a natural path for me to take. I chose at first electrical engineering and then electronic and then became really interested in the DSP side of things as well – quite a nice hybrid of electronics, computing and mathematics. We also studied more philosophical areas like quantum theory that were just as interesting but you have to chose to focus on one area so DSP it was.

SRB: Zašto techno?

ENG: Why techno?

ENG: I love the energy and the way you can receive and transmit raw emotion a lot more directly and personally – in my opinion anyway. There isn’t the baggage of lyrics for example, there’s no preconceived idea of what the music should mean. I grew into techno through first synth pop, then indie, then industrial and EBM and eventually techno but all the time with an undercurrent of electronica, IDM and ambient stuff as well. It was thanks to the local library which had a huge vinyl collection that you could borrow and try different things really easily.

ENG: Tomito Satori, Helki Torsnum, Reducer, those are all your pseudonyms, can you tell us which one of them had more success?

ENG: Ultimately Reducer would say and I think that is because it is a more timeless sound than the other projects.

ENG: In 1999. you formed your own label Asymmetric, what was your plan back then and how did it develope?

ENG: The plan was to be able to move toward releasing the music I made that was more honest and unfiltered. It is great working with other labels but you are always working through someone else’s filter as well. Asymmetric meant pushing out the music I was happiest with.

SRB: Rana 2007. je obeležila tvoje prvo izdanje za Token records i početak jake tehno alijanse koja traje i danas i izgleda jača nego ikada. Možeš li nam reći nešto više o toj saradnji?

ENG: Early 2007 marked the first release for Token records and the beginning
of a strong techno alliance that lasts today, and it looks stronger then
ever. Can you tell us more about that cooperation?

ENG: In a way the reasons for Asymmetric are how it has become with Token as well which is why it works so perfectly in my opinion. The music I’m releasing on Token is a really honest reflection of where I want to be. It’s such a good family feeling with the label, from Kr!z’s first contact many years ago to where we are at now with the label going from strength to strength, getting really noticed and starting to push out albums and projects full of really personal music.

ENG: I know its ungrateful to ask artist that question, but do you maybe have a favorite track from your discography?

ENG: It’s really difficult to say from the Token stuff as I play so much of it now and really enjoy playing it a lot. There are different tracks that fit different times and memories as well, from ‘Obsidian’ to ‘Cathedral’ and ‘Emitter’ and I think there are some really special tracks on the album to come as well! From my older releases I have to say that B2 from ASY009 ‘Nano Technology’ is such a killer track for me but there are so many others as well.

SRB: Šta slušaš u privatnom životu?

ENG: What do you listen in private life?

SRB: Ovih dana uglavnom pesmice za decu, pošto imamo jednogodišnjeg dečaka kući, iako on takođe voli techno.

ENG: These days mostly nursery rhymes as we have a one year baby boy at home although he loves his techno as well 🙂 It means less time to listen to other music though when I do get the chance I always have a soft spot for ethereal shoe-gaze stuff, like the recent I Break Horse album ‘Chiarscuro’ for example, or electronica like the recent Arovane album ‘Ve Palor’.

SRB: Koliko si upoznat sa klabing scenom u Srbiji i klubom Svemirska Kafana, gde ćeš nastupiti u junu?

ENG: How familiar you  are with clubbing sceene in Serbia and club Svemirska
Kafana, where you are going to perform in june?

ENG: I’ve only visited once before, to play in Šabac, and found Belgrade, where I stayed, to be an interesting city with some fierce and wonderful architecture from the different times in recent history. That was 10 years ago almost exactly and I’m sure things are a bit different in a lot of ways! Plus I know enough (based on knowing some of nearby Czech language) to guess that Svermiska Kafana means something similar to Space Hall – a great record store in Berlin. Those crossed connections with different places are always nice a thing for me and kind of how techno should be too!

SRB: Hvala puno, želimo ti još više uspeha u karijeri i vidimo se u Beogradu!

ENG: Thanks a lot, we wish you even more success in your career and see you in Belgrade!

SRB: Jako se radujem tome takođe i vidimo se tamo!

ENG: Looking forward to it a lot too and see you there!
