This interview was done during the ADE 2018. If you think I took too long to post it, excuse me, but I'm writting from deep parts of my heart.

ENG: How to represent this or him? How can I tell you that I actually fulfilled one of my dreams in these bad times? I feel like I should say sorry for it, but then again.. who knows, maybe it was somebodys else dream too. Everything I ever wanted always seemed like its just a dream away. Most of them still are. If I didnt have written proof, I would convinced myself that Im still swimming in a ocean of my imagination. Im overreacting, "Its just a DJ", you mean? I never actually explained why do I write so excited or emotional. Because none of them are "Just a DJ" for me. They are all humans for me and Im in a constant search for the one with a look of a human, magic touch, exceptional taste in music & see through eyes which could actually hear everything unsaid. The man I'm representing to you is having 2 hands, 2 legs - thats what makes him a human. Unselfish heart & extraordinary feeling for everything unsaid makes him Perc. He is an amazing listener and even better dialogist. Letting me ask him, well, most of the things I wanted & finally after so many years, I got the confirmation - those kind of "1 in a million" beings... they really exist. Im sorry for my extended explanation, but I really want you to be able to read exactly what I could see. And I saw a lot. I'll tell you exactly what I told him before I even started an interview: "I know every interview of yours by my heart. And I dont want to ask you anything like that. Those are all Google facts & I'm not interested in that. I want something else."

This is my personal success, because I was & I still am, amazed by all the creativity & energy you offer. In every possible way. Thank you for making my dreams come true & thank you for being different by just being you. I wish I could talk to you every day.

On je fantastičan slušalac i još bolji sagovornik. A videla sam dosta toga.

ENG: At the very first beginning, I remember when I started reading about you & your interviews, there was not much, you’re not telling much. Now there is so much more about you, but still... there is something you did not tell to any journalist before. Please, make me immortal & tell us one thing we don’t know about you.

ENG: Oooohh, that’s really tricky question to start with, hahah. I really don’t know, I mean in terms of music, all stuff I said you can find in the interviews. I don’t have some big secrets. One of my older tracks I released on CLR is completely made out of samples from „Pump Up the Jam“. No one knows that, and Chris Liebing doesn’t know that either, so that’s an exclusive, hahaha. All drums are from „Pump Up the Jam“.

Nemam neke velike tajne. Svi drum-ovi su iz pesme „Pump Up the Jam“.

ENG: I have to ask you immediately about your tracks - not any specific, but all of them. What was the path that led to all those remixes & released tracks, and you have so many of them?!

ENG: Yeah, I have so many of them. My first record came out at the end of 2001, so that’s 17 years ago. Some years I released more than other years, but from releasing an album, than things are opposite, less singles, less remixes during that year, but, I do a lot of remixes, sometimes I think I do to many remixes, but I really enjoy creative challenge of taking something and transforming it into something that works for me, and for my DJ sets. I haven’t released EP in a long time, around 3 or 4 years. Like obviously there was the album a few years ago „Bitter Music “but there wasn’t an EP for a longtime. Most of the things I release are either albums or sort of remixes.

SRB: Da, imam ih zaista mnogo.

ENG: „What your love has done to me“. Few words, big things. Do you have any idea as Alistair, not as a Perc, what your love has done to us?

SRB: „What your love has done to me“.

ENG: Oh, hahaha, I really don’t know, that track gives a really strange feeling. It’s the biggest track I have ever done, it’s the best - selling Perc Trax track ever for almost 15 years of Perc Trax label, a lot of people love it, and a lot of people love it even if they didn’t know about my music before or didn’t like anything I’ve done before and a few people that liked me before, hate that track, but like me, still like me, but they think that’s the worst thing I’ve ever done and they hate it. Yeah, it’s because they don’t like the vocals, or they think it’s more commercial or something. That wasn’t even an attempt to make something commercial or crossover, or to reach a different sort or group of people, it’s just something that happened. I had the idea for the vocals but I couldn’t get sort of music write and then suddenly I had some few different ideas, when I was working on a "Bitter Music", that came together and a track kinda happened. At once there was music, lyrics were there, and everything came together very quickly.

ENG: It just happened out of nowhere, you didn’t planned to do vocals, right?

ENG: I wanted a vocal track on the album, and I wanted to work with Elizabeth who is Gazzele Twin, we were talking about that, but at the time she was touring a lot, so she didn’t have the time. So, I wrote the lyrics and then sent them to her, and she did a very rough recording of the vocals, not in the professional studio, but at home and said „See what you think off these vocals, maybe they’ll work for you, if you like it, we can record them, so they can sound more professional“. I think she was busy on tour, with her gigs and stuff, but the demo sounded good enough, so that’s what happened, we kept the original vocal take. She has a really weird kind of effects on her vocals, she told me how to do that, so I kinda added that to the vocals and it became connected with the music she was making on her own. Before the album was released, I never played the track out myself I wasn’t even sure about it, so I didn’t play it in my sets. Then, when the album came out I didn’t play it that much, it was only other DJs playing it, so that kinda made me confident in the track itself because I wasn’t sure about it. Last summer a lot of people played it at the festivals, but I made a slightly different version for me, so when I play it it’s a little bit tougher and harder, I love people playing the original but for now I’m gonna play my own version.

ENG: Wow, we finally found out all the secrets about „Look What Your Love Has Done To Me“, thank you!

SRB: Vau, konačno smo saznali sve tajne o traci „Look What Your Love Has Done To Me“, hvala ti!

ENG: Collaborations with other artists. How do you choose who you gonna work with? What do they have to have, so you can actually make all those brutal tracks?

ENG: Well, genuinely, it’s friends. It’s much easier to work with someone who’s your friend, before you start working together, especially if you’re going to work in studio together. If it’s something you do on the internet and you send files back and forward than it can’t be a personal connection, but if you’re going to be in studio together for a day, or days, sometimes you’re gonna be frustrated with the music or get frustrated by each other, so there has to be some kind of a connection. I think all of my collaborations worked like that, like stuff with Adam X, it’s done remotely between London and Berlin, you know, you go in someone’s studio, you fly to the city where someone is and that’s how all that works. Collaborations come and go, like the one with Randomer, we only did one record together and at the moment there’s nothing more, Adam X, I don’t know I might be seeing him more in future, Truss, he’s focusing on the Overmono project and I’ve got some other things I’m working on now. So, one of my main collaborations at the moment is performances with Ansome, I don’t know maybe that will lead to us recording together, but at the moment we haven’t talked about that.

ENG: Last night I had a chance to hear something in person...one artist was telling me how special you are and while he was talking i could see all the respect he has for you. That’s the same way i feel when it comes to, it’s not just respect, it’s about everything you ever done and it’s not just about me, or one artist, there is so many people that absolutely appreciate your knowledge and all the love you gave to the music. What do you think about other artists and when I say other, I mean artists which are part of your label?

ENG: They all are special in their own way. Some artists are been there for a long time, and some artists come and go, they do like one or two records because maybe they want to focus on their own labels, other labels or different projects, but they always remain friends. If you look at the current group of artists on Perc Trax, they’re all different in their own ways, Ansome, Scalameriya, Ghost In The Machine, Manni Dee, AnD, they are all good friends and they are all part of the label. I don’t know who is specially inspiring at the label. Oh yes, Ansome is, because just of his personality and the way he approaches in making music and all other things, some of that I haven’t really done by myself either, so I always find that fascinating I think he is one of the most technically gifted people, that’s like natural technical ability. Everyone on Perc Trax have a reason why they are on the label, so if Ansome records are selling the best I would never look for someone who is the same like he is, then I would have two of them, but I want everyone to be individual, everyone have a slightly different sound, different approach to producing and also performing, I think that’s why the label works, it’s not just like finding a successful formula and then repeating it, there are people that represent Perc Trax but in a different ways.

ENG: I have to mention a special guy who’s coming from my country and he was so lucky to meet you and fulfill his dreams. Of course, I’m talking about Scalameriya, the guy who’s really loved in his country. How was working with him and do you see a part of yourself in him?

ENG: I think he is maybe better producer than me. When you say something sounds digital, it`s unfashionable thing to say, everybody wants to talk about analog equipment and modular systems, but "it’s digital because it’s fake". The whole thing is rough but it has a clean, clinical, crisp edge to it, but that means it just sounds great, when you play any of his tracks, anywhere in the world, they sound great. When I play my tracks, sometimes they sound good and sometimes I think, oh, maybe I need to work more on this one, but his tracks sound amazing everywhere. I think he has a very creative approach to producing. He sends me so much music and to be honest, I don’t like everything he sends me, but a lot of it is really amazing. There are so many artists connected with Perc Trax at the moment that I can’t release more than one record by one artist every year, so I just can’t keep releasing Scalameriya records all the time, because it would be unfair for the other artists. Specially last record for this year, that was a real connection between music, artwork and the way it was presented online, I think that was real jump forward for him and it started the year for Perc Trax very well. So it’s great to have him on Perc Trax, he is first Serbian artist. He was at the ADE showcase last year, and I’m sure he will be back again next year.

ENG: Audience from which country makes you feel most welcome, do you feel that connection through music with people you don’t know?

ENG: It’s interesting, it depends, because I’ve just been on tour for a few weeks in America, they’re really into the music, but it’s more older audience, you do get some feedback while you play, but you get more reactions online. I think it’s Italy, because as soon as you get to the DJ booth, half an hour before you play, suddenly you can feel that connection, people are excited genuinely and you get much more feedback. People show their appreciation in different ways, even like in Asia, you think you didn’t played well, because the reactions while you play are kinda calm and then when you finish everything goes crazy, because they think they shouldn’t make noise while you playing so they wouldn't distract you. When you are in Italy people are chanting and shouting. It’s different all over the world, but when we talk about direct connection and feedback, it’s definitely Italy.

Kada si u Italiji, ljudi pevaju i viču.

ENG: You know that felling when you spend your whole life listening all kinds of music and all the time something is missing. Then one day somebody shows up and fills all those missing parts. And suddenly one day (which by the way you think will never come) you get a chance to sit down and talk with him and you think you are gonna faint. For me that hero is you. Who was that hero for you and why?

SRB: Znaš onaj osećaj kada provedeš ceo svoj život slušajući sve vrste muzike i sve vreme ti nešto fali .

ENG: There’s people who started as some kind of heroes, either you meet them and they become great, or you meet them and then you become best friends. For a longtime, when I was first playing techno records, artists like Surgeon, Regis, Thomas Heckmann even Adam Beyer, longtime ago they were just names on records, they were people I would pay to go to see, to meet those guys and to give them kind of a knowledge what I do and give me time to speak with them, that was amazing. Few of those guys are still heroes in some kind of a creative way, like if I stuck creatively, they are the people I would ask for an advice. In terms of meeting a hero, few years ago I met guy called Stephen Mallinder, who is a bass player and a vocalist from Cabaret Voltaire, a British industrial band from like 70’s and 80’s. He went for few beers with me once in London cause he had some time to spare and that was amazing. Now he’s someone who is very busy, he had his music career, now he also has a job as a professor at university. At that time I didn’t release to much music, and everybody didn’t knew me so it’s amazing because he sat with me for that few beers, even if that was like 2 hours it meant a lot for me.

ENG: You have so many tracks behind you. Which one describes your soul the best?

SRB: Imaš toliko traka iza sebe. Koja najbolje opisuje tvoju dušu?

ENG: If at look at stuff I made, there’s a track from my first album called „My Head is Slowly Exploding“ not so much the title, but the track itself. That was the first time I could really make a track that kinda suprised me. It was Sunday afternoon and I was back living with my mother, my parents got divorced, so I was living in London and after that I moved back to town she lived in, which is about one hour from London at the countryside and I moved back with her for a little bit of time, to support her, when my father moved away. We had English Sunday lunch and then I just went up to the studio, they were sitting down, watching TV and a track came together very quickly, that was the first time I made a track that surprised me, because it kinda came from me and it was exactly the sound that I always wanted, it was sound that I wanted to be on Perc Trax and it was also the sound that I wanted for my first album. At that time, which I think it was 2010. I made few attempts to start an album, and every time I made two or three tracks but I thought they weren’t good enough or there wasn’t any kind of a connection between the tracks. So I think that was the first time that I made something, that’s the stuff I wanted to be on my album, so that track was key track for me. A lot of my tracks to me sound like not dated but I really remember the time when I made them and they belong to that time, I don’t play them so much now, but those tracks that to me always seem kinda fresh.

SRB: Ako pogleldam trake koje sam napravio, postoji traka sa mog prvog albuma „My Head is Slowly Exploding“, nije toliko bitan naziv, koliko i sama traka.

ENG: What is your favorite place to be on planet Earth?

ENG: Away from clubs, music and techno, i like to go to Cornwall in UK, it’s actually where’s Ansome from. It’s by the sea, the landscape and the countryside are very rugged, it’s big cliffs, rocks and beaches, it’s a lot more natural, cities are very small down there, it’s totally different than London. It’s just a very good place to come and relax. When you are a DJ you fly a lot, sometimes you don’t wanna go on a holiday, because you have to fly again, so from where I live to Cornwall it’s about six or seven hours, you have to take two different trains. So it’s nice, you don’t have to go to the airport, you just sit on a train, it’s just a relaxing place to be.

ENG: Are you preparing something new for us in 2019?

SRB: Da li pripremaš nešto novo za nas u 2019. godini?

ENG: I still have a lot of remixes to come out, like lots. Some of them were done very recently, there’s one I’m just about to finish, even some remixes a year and a half ago that still haven’t been released yet, which is getting quite frustrated right now. Recently Bas Mooy came out, which I think is about nine months old, that’s okay. Next thing I wanna do is a new EP, like I said earlier it’s been a long time since I did an EP and I haven’t released any new music of my own, since the „Bitter Music“ album, which was April of last year. Main thing now is no more remixes and trying to get an EP out in the first half of next year.

ENG: In January you are finally coming to Belgrade...

SRB: U januaru konačno dolaziš u Beograd…

ENG: Yeah, I have been to Belgrade a few times...

SRB: Da, bio sam u Beogradu nekoliko puta…

ENG: Yes, but that was long time ago, what can we expect this time, what is it gonna be this time, will it be different Perc or?

ENG: I don’t think it's gonna be different me, I think it’s gonna be some sort of recognition and I think that the amount of people that know my music is bigger, since I was last time in Serbia. It’s a DJ set and I think it will be quite extended DJ set, I don’t know the rest of the lineup yet. It will be me as always, and I will be presenting my own new music, and the music that is coming out on Perc Trax, plus whatever else I found anywhere, it’s been a lot since I was in Belgrade, so I’m really looking forward to it!

ENG: Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions.

ENG: Those were really good questions and it was nice to talk.

We owe greatness to the people that make us feel alive. Even in a moment. Sometimes, right moment is better than most of your life.

Čak i na trenutak. Ponekad, pravi momenat je bolji nego veći deo našeg života.
