Sjajni DJ i producent Patrice Baumel je izdvojio malo vremena za naš sajt i odgovorio nam na neka zaista sjajna pitanja, a njegovi odgovori su definitivno bili još bolji. Patrice nam stiže prvog dana Central Dance Eventa gde će zasigurno biti zvezda večeri.

ENG: When was the first time you fell in love with music and when did you start practising it?

ENG: I fell in love with it around the age of 4. There are photographs of me raiding the stage of the local jazz club during a concert at that age, so that could have been the moment haha. I spun my first record when I was 17.

Prvu ploču sam zvrteo kada sam imao 17. godina.

ENG: How long did it take to gain proper experience in music production? Can you tell us a bit more about your debut release?

ENG: It’s an ongoing process, but to reach a point where felt comfortable with my own style, probably 7 to 10 years. My debut release was a record called “Mutant Pop” on Cologne imprint Trapez. I remember the day the vinyl arrived in the mail and I held it in my hands. It was a feeling of deep satisfaction.

ENG: What is your main inspiration for music production? How many new releases are ready to go out and are you planning to play some of them on CDE?

ENG: I draw inspiration from anywhere in life, museum, films, a new synth or just the impression of the last party. Sometimes I’m just in the flow and I don’t even know where the ideas come from, it just kind of possesses me.

I have a few new remixes coming out and a new single for Kompakt. If the mood is right I will play them.

ENG: It’s not hard to notice that Techno exploded in the past few years (with the demise of EDM) yet so much of what is classified as techno is just a progressive house. Have you found yourself (and fellow peers) still having to work around the unfortunate tag progressive has held or do you find it shifting and people becoming more knowledgeable?

ENG: Categories do not really interest me. I feel comfortable playing progressive as well as techno music and try to turn them into my own sound, something that is not beholden to any trend or hype. Generally, the acceptance of proggy music has really gone up, I hear them played everywhere.

SRB: Kategorije me nikad nisu interesovale.

ENG:What was the turning point in your career?

ENG:Participating in the Red Bull Music Academy Sao Paulo 2002, the moment I discovered that maybe music production was something I wanted to do and music in general could be a viable career path and life choice.

ENG: As a proven experimentalist, you challenge the audience to take in less understood musical ideas. Do you see your music events as an initiation for a change?

ENG: I see music as a language to transport emotions between people. Anything that touches people emotionally ultimately changes them, but for me the more important goal is connection.

ENG: Let’s say you have a gig coming up tonight. What does your approach look like – from selecting and preparation of the material to opening and building a set?

ENG: I try to do my homework and get an idea of what kind of crowd comes to a club based on previous bookings. I will try to find photos and video footage of the space in order to get an idea of what to expect. Then I’ll make a custom playlist for the night, just a preselection of about 80-120 tracks. Once I get to the venue I improvise.

ENG: Share with us the funniest mistake happened while playing at a party. When nothing went right that day but the party was great at the end?

ENG: Party memories disappear in the rearview mirror pretty quickly, sometimes I don’t even know anymore where I played last week. Sorry, no funny stories, just lots of fun times.

ENG: Since you are always very welcome here, what are your impressions of Belgrade, Serbia and clubbing, and do you look forward returning but this time on the famous Central Dance Event?

ENG: Since I am a child of the East myself I love playing in former communist countries, there is a certain nostalgia surrounding the old buildings that take me back to that time. I also notice that in regions where there was war not so long ago there is a deeper appreciation for life, you can feel a more hedonistic, passionate attitude in the people. I love playing here.
